Let’s unplug for a day of volunteering in nature!
Join the Center for the Inland Bays and Delaware Wild Lands on Sunday, November 14, 2021, at 10 am -1 pm (Rain date: Sunday, November 21, 2021) to plant 1,000 trees at Delaware Wild Lands’ Great Cypress Swamp. Let’s experience nature and give back to Delaware’s natural areas!
Please, read carefully the information below:
The initial meeting location for the event is at 24558 Cypress Rd, Frankford, DE 19945. BUT the planting site will be at the heart of the Great Cypress Swamp: Delaware’s largest continuous forest. This property is generally closed to the public, so this is an opportunity to see and experience the interior of this great landform. This planting is part of a much larger effort to improve the resiliency of this large forestland by increasing the species and age diversity of its trees. Additionally, trees planted as pat of this effort will help improve water quality, enhance air quality, and provide high quality habitat for migratory and resident birds and wildlife.
- This planting event is more remote and rugged than the Center’s usual plantings. Cell phone, internet, and GPS signals are not available at planting site.
- We suggest volunteers be prepared with plenty of water, bug spray, outdoor clothing (to work under changing weather conditions), and any personal items they may need (snacks, hats, etc.).
- After check-in and event introduction we will caravan to the tree planting site. We recommend the use of SUV’s or trucks since the dirt roads leading to site may be muddy and difficult to ride in smaller vehicles.
- It is important to be on time, since it will be difficult to transport late arrivals to the planting site.
- Restroom facilities will be available at the meeting site, but not a the planting location.
- This event is for volunteers 12 years and older.
