Learn about horseshoe crabs and why they make their way onto the beaches of the Inland Bays. This program dives into the ecology, anatomy, and benefits of horseshoe crabs using a lifelike model (and hopefully a living organism!). Participants will have the opportunity to explore the beach and the Preserve and hopefully find a living horseshoe crab!
Perfect for participants of all ages! Kids’ Days offer children the opportunity to connect with nature through hands-on learning and exploration.
Participants will be in and around the water, so please wear clothes and shoes that can get wet and sandy. Closed-toe shoes are encouraged. Don’t forget to bring water, sunscreen, and insect repellent, as the Preserve can be buggy at times.
We’ll walk approximately 0.5 miles to and from the beach, with the majority of the program spent wading in the water at the beach.
Important Notes:
Participants under the age of 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times.
This program is weather permitting.
Attendance is free, but registration is encouraged. We reserve the right to turn away walk-ups if necessary.
