Environmental Literacy Teacher Training

30048 Cedar Neck Rd. Ocean View, DE 19970

Hosted by the Delaware Center for the Inland Bays and Delaware Sea Grant, this hands-on workshop introduces educators to the Meaningful Watershed Educational Experience (MWEE)—a learner-centered framework that engages students in investigating local environmental issues and taking informed action. Designed for K–12 educators, the workshop blends practical strategies, place-based learning, and regional collaboration. Participants will explore MWEE-aligned resources, engage in outdoor field experiences across diverse habitats, and take part in hands-on activities—including microscope investigations—that model inquiry-based learning. Educators will leave with practical tools, fresh ideas, and support to bring MWEE into their teaching.

Workshop Highlights:

Overview of MWEE concepts and classroom connections

Hands-on outdoor activities (bay, forest, meadow)

Strategies to overcome barriers to outdoor learning

Ready-to-use resources and local project examples

Time to reflect, connect, and plan next steps

Participants will also connect with program staff and learn about resources such as field trips to the James Farm Ecological Preserve.
